What Is MrSid Technology?

MrSid creates a Seamless Image Database(SID), which is a file format for massive raster images. This enables instantaneous viewing of high definition images while maintaining maximum image quality with true multiple resolutions, resulting in the highest image quality possible.

When you order the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum from your CD will include the MrSid viewer - free! That means you will be able to examine, copy and print all of the pages from the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum that will look identical to the original historic document. Plus the images load so quickly, you can scan through the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum just like you were turning the pages in the original atlas itself!

I received my CDs today (lightning fast shipping!) and I am absolutely thrilled! I have sampled all of the CDs and they are, as promised, jam-packed with high-quality photos, map, posters, etc. I believe the images and material on these CDs will be of great interest to any educator and layman, amateur and professional historian alike . Well done! Many thanks for these CDs - what a wonderful historical treasure they are!"

Yours Truly,

-Wilfred Pennington -- Centralia, IL (unclewilfred2001@yahoo.com)

Where does The Theatrum Orbis Terrarum come from?

This amazing historical document was first compiled by Abraham Ortelius in 1570. This edition was far from complete, and the Flemish scholar considered it a work in progress. Before these pages were printed no one had ever considered putting together all of the known maps of the world into one edition. Up until this time, maps were usually loose sheets of paper of varying sizes and dimensions. Because of the variety of sources it was almost impossible for sailors and scholars to accurately compare distances, plan voyages and advance their work.

Ortelius Brought The Entire World’s Knowledge Together In One Easy To Follow Atlas!

This is the Ortelius’ genius - by compiling all the best-known maps of his day into a standardized format, he was able to create the world’s first atlas - describing the civilized and uncivilized world in a single accurate volume. More amazing still is that Ortelius was no sailor himself! Instead he made his living as an illustrator while spending his spare time reading about his world. From these humble beginnings he was able to miraculously create the most accurate cartographical document of his time. Most of his original sources have long since disappeared into the sands of time - but when viewing these pages you will be astounded how accurate and reliable was his knowledge of the world - including the United States, which had only recently been discovered!

The Rarest Version Of The Theatrum Orbis Terrarum Ever Discovered!

This version of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum - from 1584 - is the rarest ever found by scholars. It contains 19 more pages than any of the earlier editions of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. It is also the first ever produced by Plantin Press - which was known to employ the best map plates of its time. For that reason it is both more complete and easier to read than any edition before it. Yet, because it was the first edition made my Plantin Press, very few copies were printed, and still fewer survived! Although many more copies of later editions were printed, the 1584 edition is considered the rarest and most important version of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum ever found!

Unavailable To The General Public For Centuries!

Because it is so scarce, it has been nearly impossible for most amateur cartographers and historians to study the secrets of this version of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. Pictures of the 1584 edition could be found in history books - but they were generally of low quality and did not allow study of the deep details and grain in the original printing.

Here is your chance to view this rare work as though you were one of the highest placed scholars in the world!

It is only now, with the invention of high quality scanning and viewing technology, that these pages can be studied and printed in your own home with the same level of clarity and definition you would find if you were in the best historical libraries in the world!
