The Childhood Years: Learning To Live By The Golden Rule DVD

Are you curious about what was right and what was wrong for children in America in the middle of the 20th century? Are you a concerned parent or councilor on child behavior? This DVD is a must have for all those who are.

This DVD contains a rare collection of films on the behavior and moral ethics that American children were expected to adopt in the '40s and '50s.

Innovative DVD technology has made it possible for us to restore and preserve these celluloid masterpieces.

Good manners are the first mark of good breeding and reflect directly on a person's upbringing. Good manners are based on a simple formula - consideration for other people. It means putting the other person first, even at the cost of inconvenience to you. Good manners are a person's subconscious display of what they expect from others. The essence of this philosophy is found in the much-used Bible quote "Do unto others as you would have them do to you".

This DVD recounts the emphasis that was laid on good manners and high moral values in the '40s and '50s. The lessons are relevant to the present times as well.

Good table Manners

This film emphasizes the negative value of gossip and the need for moral reformation among teenagers. It illustrates this well with a dramatized presentation of the story of a young girl Jean Gage, who is invited on a date with the school rage -Jack Monroe. When Jack misbehaves, Jean slaps him and pushes him away. An enraged Jack seeks revenge and spreads damaging rumors about Jean.

"Stop acting like a pig!" I really wonder how many children took this parental admonition seriously, but the producers of the one of the films (Johnny Learns His Manners) in this entertaining DVD certainly did. The result was the production of a humorously presented lesson on the value of good manners - behave badly and you become a pig. Use of animation adds flavor to a well intended set of films all focusing on the same issue - good manners! Imaginative story lines and dramatized presentations of situations serve the cause of the films well, although the footage is mostly in black and white. The emphasis on moral codes is especially well conveyed in the 1953 Sid Davis production, aptly titled "Gossip". This film outlines the drastic effects of gossip on a young girl's life. There is a lesson for parents as well - "reward good manners and be a little patient, give them (the children) a little time to learn". After all, Rome was not built in one day!

"In terms of client service, I find yours to be among the best. I also appreciate the fact that you have selected many tiles that are both rare and relevant. This DVD on good manners and behavioral codes is an example. The quality of it's content is good and the clips are well preserved. I wouldn't say the lessons on behavior and manner are dated, because what was good for youngsters in the '40s and '50's is just as good for children today."

"This DVD is about the times when we, as children, were expected to follow a rather strict code of conduct. I plan to present this DVD to my daughter, who is a mother of three. Although her children are well behaved, I am sure watching this DVD wouldn't hurt them."

Customer's Name : Ruth Morrison (San Diego, California)
