An opportunity to buy a brand-new PAL DVD of the one of the fascinating American early sound films made in 1929:

The Great Gabbo, 1929, starring Erich von Stroheim

Running Time: approximately 68 minutes

The source material provides very good picture and sound quality. The contrast of the black-and-white picture is very good.

Note that the film was originally released by Sono Art-World Wide Pictures with featured sequences in Multicolor and the running time was therefore at least 20 minutes longer. These colour sequences have long since been lost, and therefore the current prints, restored by the Library of Congress, are only in black and white.

Your brand-new DVD disc will be created from this source material (without any artwork), and will be supplied in a clear plastic wallet, NOT in a DVD case.

Note that the picture attached is for illustrative purposes only, and is therefore NOT included or offered with this listing.

Region 2:

IMPORTANT NOTE for American, Canadian and other non-Region 2 buyers:

You will need a multi-region DVD player to play this disc.

Plot: Gabbo (Erich von Stroheim), a ventriloquist and a supreme egotist, Mary (Betty Compson), his assistant, and Little Otto, Gabbo's dummy, are all performing on a vaudeville circuit; Gabbo constantly finds fault with Mary's efforts to please and insists upon his own greatness. During a performance Mary stumbles and drops a tray, thus infuriating Gabbo, who orders her to her dressing room after the performance, berates her, and finally forces her to leave…..

Directed by James Cruze

Written by Ben Hecht with continuity and dialogue by Hugh Herbert

Premiere: New York opening: 12 September 1929

Please read all the details of this listing so you know exactly what you are buying.

What will I receive? Your film will come on a DVD-R disc in a plastic DVD sleeve with no artwork. The title of the film will be written on the sleeve for your convenience.
