Based on the novel “The Border Legion” by Zane Grey (New York, 1916). In a modern interview, Roy Rogers stated that after the general release of the picture, Republic was forced to change the title to “West of the Badlands” – as seen in the film on the DVD offered here - because of copyright problems, possibly related to the Zane Grey novel.
Steve Kells (Roy Rogers), a young cowboy from the East, meets Honest John Whittaker (George “Gabby” Hayes) on the road to Miles City in the Idaho territory. Steve offers John a ride to town, where John decides to sell shares in the Alder Creek gold mines and Steve finds a job singing at Hurricane Hattie's (Maude Eburne) saloon. Steve soon learns that the territory is being plagued by a band of outlaws called the Border Legion …..
