This auction is for :- A 1859 finely detailed tinted lithographic print
beautifully engraved by T Picken from the drawings by J B Pyne
Showing a superb rainbow lit view of Loweswater
Holme woods I think, can be seen, and the imposing Mellbreak looming large at the head of the lake, with what may be the Kirkstile Inn gleaming white off to the right
These Lithographic prints will have been bound at some time in the book ' Lake Scenery of England' by J B Pyne, and whoever removed them, kept the page of descriptive text that accompanied each scene, and unless otherwise stated, this page of description is included in the sale
Printed at the foot of each print (in the border), is the artists and lithographers names on the left, Day and Son Lithographers to The Queen, on the right, and printed centrally is :- London, Published June 1st 1859 by Day & Son, Gate Street, Lincoln's Inn Fields.
In the border just above the top right of each print is a printed number representing the plate number.
The main title is in the bottom border in Block capitals
It is on good quality heavy gauge paper with a blank reverse,
It measures 220 x 150 mm (8.5 x 6 " ) approximately, PLUS BORDERS. There is a little age yellowing which is a feature of items of great age and there may be some scattered but light, brown spotting ( foxing ). Please check the larger picture for condition, anything more than minor will be mentioned in the main body of the description.
This item will be shipped flat in a board backed envelope, and protected inside that envelope by a plastic sleeve
