This listing is for an 1858 untitled hand coloured print from engraving, with the publisher's details at the foot of the print.
It shows a whale beached on what looks like a flat ice flow. It is The North Atlantic Right Whale is a baleen whale. The modern scientific name Eubalaena glacialis, means "good, or true, whale of the ice".
The print is untitled but the name is lightly written in pencil on the reverse, "The True Whale - The Right Whale".
Provenance: From a series of engravings in Oliver Goldsmith's A History of the Earth and Animated Nature; Publisher: A Fullerton, Edinburgh & London 1858
The print measures 245 x 160 mm ( 9.5 x 6.25) " approx. It has a blank reverse. It has a some age yellowing with binding marks to top of print, and the engraving is offset - please refer to scans for condition. This item will be shipped flat in a board backed envelope, and protected inside that envelope by a plastic sleeve
