Birds Eggs of the Oyster Catcher
A beautiful colour 1853 plate - An untitled colour print from wood engraving finished by hand and showing the birds eggs of Oyster Catcher.
Provenance: The Rev Francis Orpen Morris - Engraved and printed by Benjamin Fawcett of Middle Street, Driffield, Yorkshire, Printer and Publisher, using the Baxters Process under licence.
Benjamin Fawcett (1808 Bridlington - 1893) was one of the finest of English19thC woodblock and wood engraving colour printers.
It measures 200x130mm (8x5") approx. plus borders. There is some foxing and a little age yellowing around the borders which is a feature of items of great age It is on good quality paper with a blank reverse. This plate is ideal for matting and framing.
Some of these prints show a little age yellowing which is a feature of items of great age and there may be some scattered but light, brown spotting (foxing). This print inevitably would have been originally bound in a book at some time - please check the larger picture for condition, anything more than minor will be mentioned in the main body of the description.
This item will be shipped flat in a board backed envelope, and protected inside that envelope by a plastic sleeve
