This auction is for :- A c 1867 Original, finely detailed print from steel engraving, printed on good quality heavy stock paper with a blank reverse
Hagar and her son departeth
beautifully engraved by W French from the work by A Van Dyk
A fairly large hand coloured* print, showing :-
The slave Hagar and her child (by Abraham)departed and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba
It can be difficult to distinguish between hand colouring and printed colouring in these early examples - I believe them to be hand coloured, particularly after having seen a number of uncoloured examples
It is on good quality heavy gauge paper with a blank reverse,
The print measures OVERALL 330 x 240 mm (13 x 9.5 ") approx; and the engraved area varies from print to print, with very generous titled borders
