This auction is for :- A fine and detailed print from engraving
'DRAWN by William Hogarth, engraved by C Armstrong '
It depicts an interesting scene of supposed preparations for France's Weak and emaciated, skeletal even, army to invade England. (highlighting Hogarth's contempt for France) and the alehouse sign reading 'meagre soup at the Royal Comb' points this up. There is also an officer roasting four frogs on his sword. A further soldier carries a banner which reads 'Vengeance with the good beer and good beef of England'
There is also a portly monk (obviously the church folk won't be hungry), and he carries plans for a monastery to be built at Blackfriars. w
XXXXX It comes with a page of descriptive text XXXXXX
There is a second one which pairs with this one, being sold separately and that one is called 'England' - they would make a good framed pair of interesting prints
The print measures overall approximately 270 x 200 mm (or 10.5 x 8 inches)
There is some age yellowing possibly with some spotting - please check the larger picture for condition.
Anything more than minor will be mentioned in the main body of the description.

Info. The term "an original print" is a pictorial image made in a manner which allows it to be multiplied, and originating from the date stated.
