The Illustrated London News was a magazine founded by Herbert Ingram and Mark Lemon, the Editor of Punch,
with the first edition of the Illustrated London News appearing on 14 May 1842.
This auction is for:-seven pages (14 sides) from a weekly issue of :-

This first part of the description features a list of Images i.e. prints from engravings, sketches, drawings etc (these sometimes have descriptive articles but not always). They include :-
Ferdinand Charles De Bourbon, King of Naples front-page (this image has been childishly coloured and there are some staining and pencil marking to this front page too, and a tear to the bottom border)
The Late King of Denmark Christian the eighth (this image has also been, but a better job has been made of it)
Copenhagen from an original sketch (tear to bottom border slightly affecting illustration but easily repaired)

scene from "A New Way to Pay Old Debts", at the Olympic Theatre near half page (small attempt at colouring has been made on this illustration and there is a significant tear to the border which extends into the engraving. It can be repaired depending upon which side of the page is required to be kept)

Roman Villa Discovered in Lower Thames Street
The four digit number in brackets in title is for my ref only.
It measures 365 x 260 mm (14.25 x 10.25 ).The spine is loose with binding witness marks where once bound, some pages are loose. There is some age yellowing with some spotting. Some pages may have minor cuts tears and blemishes due to their great age. The engravings vary in size. There are no outer advertising pages/cover unless otherwise stated.
The images are in black and white unless otherwise stated.
Quotation or speech marks in the text signifies the content in my words and not necessarily what is written on the original page
PLEASE NOTE :- I cannot guarantee that the issue is complete 'as published' - but what I have described above IS present. As far as I can tell
there are No pages missing so if you are looking for something in particular in these pages PLEASE ASK. The process of the page numbering in The Illustrated London News issues are applied in a yearly sequence and therefore do not start at number 1.
This item will be packaged in a tube unless otherwise requested.
