CQout does everything it reasonably can to protect its users, provided
Buyers follow the advice we offer and use the systems and services
we have put in place to help protect themselves. These include:
- The Rating System
- Check the other person's trading history
See User Ratings.
If a seller has no trading history or is not a CQtrusted Seller,
for a 100% safe deal and peace of mind
- "3 strikes
and you are out" . Any user with 3 negative ratings will be suspended from
- Our credit card registration and user validation system means that a rogue trader cannot get
back on to the CQout site under any other identity
- Dispute Resolution
- Unlike other auction sites where the
Rating system is purely an information service and is
unattended, on CQout
the rating system is the foundation of our dispute resolution process
- Buyers and Sellers are encouraged to deal
with each other directly to resolve any issues. For further details see
- However if agreement cannot be reached,
issuing a negative rating alerts CQout which will investigate the matter and
take appropriate action, including making a refund if SecurePay was used for
making the payment
- Shill Bidding
- This is when a
Seller makes bids from another account or
through an associate to drive the price up. This is illegal in UK and whereas
most auction sites in practice do little to prevent it, CQout has systems in place to eradicate
- CQout user registration and card validation makes it very difficult
to have multiple IDs
- Electronic "finger printing" and account associations
quickly identify potential shill bids
- On CQout, Buyers have the peace of mind that any bidding activity on
an item is genuine
Further Advice & Guidance: Safe Trading Tips
Should you decide not to use SecurePay, sending a cheque made out to the seller and crossed ( A/C Payee only)
is safer than doing a direct bank transfer as it at least gives you a traceable physical address for the seller if anything goes wrong.
Do NOT send cheques or cash to any other person, at any address
other than their CQout registered address.
If you must send cash in the post, make sure it is disguised and
is sent by registered post only. Never send it in ordinary mail with no proof of delivery.
Even if it does not go missing in the post, your Seller
may deny ever receiving it.
Bank transfer & wire services are harder to trace than cheques (you need a real name & address to receive a cheque.
And hence easily traced back)
Western Union money transfers are the most common system used
by fraudsters. If your seller insists on this payment method you should be extremely concerned.
Escrow- You are advised to only use an escrow service by a
company such as CQout that you know and trust. There are many fake and fraudulent escrow services. Do not be persuaded by another user to use an escrow service that you do not trust.
is our in-house escrow service which you know you can trust. There is
absolutely no reason to use another service as all CQout Sellers accept
Sellers on CQout are obliged to accept SecurePay. They do not have the option to refuse. If the
Seller is refusing to accept , report this to us immediately.
Goods should always be sent by a carrier that can track and confirm
delivery. Sellers are strongly advised to use a service with proof of delivery and depending on the value of the goods you should also make sure
they are insured in transit. See Shipping, Postal rates & delivery charges
for further help.
