CQOut
CQOut is unusual in that it insists
that buyers and sellers register, send proof of identity and pay a
joining fee of £2 by card or £1.50 by cheque or postal order. It
has more items listed than any UK auction site apart from eBay.
Surprisingly, our search for 'Beano' drew a blank on CQOut's basic
search system, even though we took care to search all listings
under Books and under several other categories. Using the search
tool, which allows you to search all items and look in
descriptions as well as auction titles, delivered two hits: a
McDonald's promotional figurine and an obscure vinyl single by the
band Beano.
Some visitors may be drawn to CQOut's adult section, where all
manner of erotica is available. Until you register and have proved
yourself to be over 18, you can only view brief listings in this
category.
CQOut runs its own escrow system, SecurePay, with a minimum fee of
£3 or 10 percent of the transaction value, whichever is greater.
The buyer pays this.
Apart from regular auctions, sellers can use the CQInstant
service. This allows an item to be sold immediately for a fixed
price, rather than auctioned. Users can set up wanted items, which
appear among the lots in categories.
