Comedy-thriller. Scotland Yard are mystified by the activities of a murderous blackmailer, known only as ‘The Shadow’, who terrorises the rich of England; his victims are threatened with ruin or even worse if he is not paid. A police detective, on his trail, is killed but the blackmailer leaves clues behind. Matters come to a head as suspects and uninvited guests appear at the home of the police Chief Commissioner (Felix Aylmer) himself, on a fog-shrouded night. They are then terrorized by a mysterious hooded figure dressed in black who proceeds to kill them off one by one. But the perpetrator is finally unmasked by the intervention of a novelist (Henry Kendall), with the help of the Chief Commissioner’s daughter (Elizabeth Allan).
