with the first edition of the Illustrated London News appearing on 14 May 1842.

This first part of the description features a list of Images i.e. prints from engravings, sketches, drawings etc (these sometimes have descriptive articles but not always). They include :-

May – illustration by WS Coleman – front page (there are 2 tears to the bottom border and a piece missing from the right-hand border approximately 1 in.², and the pages detached)miel

Transatlantic Sketches – four separate illustrations, the 1st being half page, individually entitled: – The Broadway, St Louis – Locomotive Engine on the Ohio and Mississippi Railway – St Louis Mercantile Library Hall – Harrison House Vincennes Indiana – (there are a couple of repaired tears to the bottom border and the Harrison house image has a cut in it, which could be repaired on the reverse to make it virtually invisible as it appears to have been caused by a scalpel like Blade)

The four digit number in brackets in title is for my ref only.

It measures 365 x 260 mm (14.25 x 10.25 “).The spine is loose with binding witness marks where once bound, some pages are loose. There is some age yellowing with some spotting.

Some of the pages may be loose, and have minor cuts tears and blemishes due to their great age - anything more than minor will be mentioned in the main body of the description. The engravings vary in size.

Quotation or speech marks in the text signifies the content in my words and not necessarily what is written on the original page

PLEASE NOTE :- I cannot guarantee that the issue is complete 'as published' - but what I have described above IS present. As far as I can tell there is 1 page missing so if you are looking for something in particular in these pages PLEASE ASK. The process of the page numbering in The Illustrated London News issues are applied in a yearly sequence and therefore do not start at number 1.
