This auction is for :- An 1835 print from engraving
'DRAWN & ENGRAVED BY - Thomas Allom and A Le Petit '
STY HEAD TARN, CUMBERLAND
A fine view of Sty Head Tarn, in which, perhaps strangely , Mr Allom has depicted a dead sheep lying on the shore, receiving the attentions of scavenging birds – in all likelihood there was a sheep there so he just included it in the picture
Sty Head Tarn is a small elevated lake in the neighbourhood of the mountain Sty Head, and is overlooked by Great End, one of the summits of Scawfell
"The mountain of Scawfell is the highest in England and ascends to the elevation of 3166 feet above the level of the sea"
The Print measures overall approximately 205 x 135 mm (8 x 5.25 inches ). There is some age yellowing possibly with some spotting - please check the larger picture for condition.
Anything more than minor will be mentioned in the main body of the description.
This item will be shipped flat in a board backed envelope, and protected inside that envelope by a plastic sleeve
