This listing is for an 1815 print from engraving, from the date stated and not a later reproduction
Interior of Lindisfarn - West End
Engraved by J. Greig , from a painting by Luke Clennell
The plates from this series were published as proofs, printed onto fine grade paper (sometimes called onion paper) and individually mounted on plain white sheets. The heavier grade paper shows the plate marks/indents from this printing process.
Provenance: The Border Antiquities of England and Scotland; by Sir Walter Scott; Published: Paternoster Row London; Longman and Co.
The overall print measures 365 x 250 mm (14.25 x 9.75 inches) approx. In the past there has been tape applied to the corners leaving witness marks, but can be matted out - please see larger scan for condition. There is some age yellowing and a little creasing to borders of light grade paper. There is a small tear to light grade paper on right corner.
Our use of the term "an original print" is a pictorial image made in a manner which allows it to be multiplied, and originating from the date stated. This includes examples of various methods of printmaking including engravings, etchings, woodcuts etc. Inevitably many of these prints would have originally been bound in books.
