This listing is for a 1770 print from copper engraving, from the date stated and not a later reproduction.
The North View of Roehampton in Surrey
A beautiful Georgian copper plate engraving with later (probably) hand colouring. A view of the Thames (I assume) with sailing boats and barges, with houses and a church along each side of the river in the distance. A man walking alongside the river carrying a basket.
There is no provenance, but it is definitely mid to late 1700's.
It is blank on the reverse. The overall print including borders measures 193 x 120 mm (8 x 5 inches) approx. The margins are very narrow, and none at all to right of print. The bottom edge margin is tatty but this can be evened of during framing - please check the larger picture for condition. The print will be shipped flat in a board backed envelope.
The use of the term "an original print" in this case, is a pictorial image made in a manner which allows it to be multiplied, and originating from the date stated. This includes examples of various methods of printmaking including engravings, etchings, woodcuts etc. Inevitably many of these prints would have originally been bound in books.
